Jerome Boruszewski: What do you think about the visit of the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in the Vatican on Thursday ?
Nguyen Thanh Giang: As all of the Vietnamese people I’m very agree with the visit of Prime Minister of Vietnamese Government Nguyen Tan Dung to Vatican.
I think that it is better if this event were happened before.
Jerome Boruszewski: Why does the Vietnamese State try to have better relations with the Holly See ? What are the hidden reasons up to you ? What’s the strategy of the Vietnamese Government ?
Nguyen Thanh Giang: Perhaps, up to now the leaders of the Vietnamese Communist Party have to recognize the aspiration not only six million Vietnamese Catholics , but also the aspiration of all Vietnamese people. Moreover, the Vietnamese leaders have so to do ( promoting the relation with Vatican ) to integrate better into the world.
I think that the Vietnamese leaders have to do many better to eliminate the prejudice seeing the Christians as the culprits for the French colonialism in Vietnam.
I profoundly grateful many priests as Alexandre De Rhode, who had contributed many force to create the official Vietnamese writing system following the rules of Roman alphabet.
Jerome Boruszewski: It is often said that the situation of Christians has improved those last years in Vietnam. What do you think ?
Nguyen Thanh Giang: Yes, the problem of freedom and democracy for Vietnamese people in general and for the religion in specially are promoted in some last years. But the situation is not considered as fully adequated, because the Vietnamese leaders have to actually respect the right of Vatican in the nomination for the Catholics priests, and recognize officially the organization of Free-Buddish, headed by the Most Venerable Thich Quang Do.
Jerome Boruszewski: Can the re-establishment of the diplomatic relations with the Vatican improve the situation and the freedom of religion for the Vietnamese Catholics and the Vietnamese Protestants in Vietnam ?
Nguyen Thanh Giang: We can believe that, the re-establishment of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Vatican will improve the situation of freedom of religion for the Catholics and Protestants in Vietnam.
We hope that, the Vietnamese Communists will make the situation better and better , not only for the expectation of the Catholics and the Protestants, but also for the existence and the reputation of the Communist Party himself.
